Anxiety Counselling

Our anxiety counselling services are generally based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework as research suggests that cognitive biased psychotherapies (those which focus on an individual’s ‘thinking processes’) tend to be more effective than, for example, psychodynamic therapy which relies more on emotional affect.

Types of Anxiety Counselling

There are many different types of anxiety counselling available and deciding which one will be the most suitable for you and your anxiety-related problems is dependent on a number of factors, including:

  • The severity of your anxiety symptoms.
  • The length of time you have been suffering.
  • Your willingness to work towards a solution.
  • How comfortable you are about discussing your problems.
  • and so on….

Here at Tranceform Psychology we are able to offer a number of different anxiety counselling solutions in addition to cognitive behavioral therapy including evidence-based hypnotherapy, psychoanalysis, counselling and even self-directed CBT online.

How Effective is Anxiety Counselling?

Anxiety counselling with CBT is widely recognised as one of the most effective anxiety treatments and over many years a great deal of empirical evidence has been collected and analysed lending support to its efficacy.

This is one of the main reasons why the NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services have invested so much in offering CBT to the general public.

Unfortunately, the waiting list for CBT-based anxiety counselling with the IAPT services can often be many months which has resulted in anxiety sufferers seeking the help of private therapists such as ourselves here at Tranceform Psychology.

Anxiety Counselling with CBT

Anxiety counselling using CBT involves exploring how a person’s thoughts, beliefs and values are used to create different meanings about different experiences which then result in a wide range of emotional outcomes.

The CBT approach considers that the physical feelings (symptoms) associated with anxiety are the result of ‘cognitive distortions’ or unhelpful thinking styles, and so by changing these initial thoughts or understandings of any given experience, we can create a different set of feelings.

This fundamental principle within CBT is often thought of as counter-intuitive by those suffering anxiety as they tend to be believe that it is the SITUATION or the CONTEXT that causes their anxiety, but in reality, it is in fact the way that we MAKE SENSE of our experiences that leads to the way we feel about them!

How Much Does Anxiety Counselling Cost?

The cost of anxiety counselling services varies greatly and depends on numerous factors including the credentials and experience of the therapist offering the services, the overhead costs of the buildings that the therapists work out of, the costs that the therapist has invested in their training (which they need to recoup at some point of course) and the location of the practice.

Anxiety counselling in the heart of London, for example, can cost £200 or more per hour!

It is available either face-to-face in the clinic offices in Wombourne, South Staffordshire (You can view our practice location here) or as an online programme using Zoom video anywhere in the World.

You can purchase the Tranceformental CBT programme in our shop here.
