The Different Types of Depression treatment Available at Tranceform Psychology
Depression responds very well to talking therapies and can normally be significantly improved and in many cases solved completely.
Many people who consult for one-to-one help from counsellors and psychologists have already been prescribed anti-depressant medication by their GP’s and find the experience either helpful or less so.
It is important to be aware that medication and therapy are completely compatible and not mutually exclusive. However, many clients find, that as a result of following a course of depression treatment they become less reliant on medication and are able to develop a range of coping skills and cognitive strategies for the future.
If you do decide to follow a course of depression treatment with us here in Wombourne and are also taking medication for your condition, then please continue taking your medication in accordance with your GP’s guidance.
If, following a course of therapy, you feel that you want to stop taking medication, then always discuss this with your GP so they can develop a ‘tapering-off’ programme with you.
Specific Depression Treatment Options
There are literally hundreds of different forms of therapy that claim to be effective in dealing with depression and the choice can sometimes be overwhelming!
Here at Tranceform Psychology we only use evidence-based interventions that are backed-up by scientific research and proven to be effective.
One of the most effective depression treatments is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT as it is more commonly known which is widely advocated for across the NHS and has a large body of supporting research in terms of effective outcomes.
We have been delivering an advanced, beliefs-based type of CBT since 2009 which is available as a 10 session course taking place over 10 weeks and includes one hour weekly sessions which is complemented by a ‘workbook’ that provides the basic structure of the programme.

Although counselling has become a generic phrase encompassing the many different types of psychological help, counselling is distinctly different from other ‘modalities’ in that it is often delivered as a therapy that simply involves talking and exploring feelings with a therapist rather then targeting specific techniques.
Many people prefer this less ‘involved’ process and find that simply ‘talking’ through things in a non-judgemental environment is useful in itself.
