Resilience
The Ability to Cope with the Strains and Stresses of Life
What is Resilience & How Do I Get it?
Resilience is a person’s ability to ‘bounce-back’ from problems, difficulties and life challenges. In life we can all expect to have our fair share of difficult times, for example when losing a loved one or when suffering ill health.
Everybody has a different level of resilience and this is why some people are able to cope more than others when experiencing similar problems. Resilience is directly related to our coping skills. So what makes a person more or less resilient?
The Origins of Resilience
Resilience is a combination of biological, psychological and social (bio-psycho-social) factors.
Whilst there is some evidence that a part of being resilient is passed on genetically, the greater part of resilience comes from our social experiences during our developmental life (in this sense ‘social’ refers to any and all interactions with other human beings – parents, care-givers, friends and relatives).
Dr. Michael Ungar
Dr. Michael Ungar is a world renowned expert on resilience. You can listen to what he says about it in the video below:
Learning Resilience
We all have, more or less, a certain amount of resilience ‘inside’ us that we can use when facing problems, but for those who have been finding it difficult to cope, we offer the Thrive Programme. Thrive is a wholly scientific, evidence-based training programme which examines and then changes the core beliefs that form the most important foundation of resilience.
These core (limiting) beliefs set the stage for the subsequent development of our ‘rules for living’ which we use to negotiate our day-to-day experiences and our ability to cope is directly intertwined inside these beliefs.
By learning how to change those core beliefs we can change how we feel and respond to any situation in a way that is more ‘useful’ for us, or, in a more resilient way!
Transform Your Thinking & Become Resilient
If you’re committed to improving your level of resilience then we highly recommend following our Advanced Tranceformental CBT programme with Paul. Tranceformental CBT is available as Online Therapy if required.
The Tranceformental programme is a highly successful & pragmatic mental health counselling course, run over 10 sessions, that will teach you everything you need to know to understand your problem, identify how unhelpful thinking and limiting beliefs might be reinforcing the issue, and then show you how to make any changes to your unhelpful thinking styles or maladaptive safety behaviours that you may have developed as part of your coping strategies.
Our Tranceformental CBT programme is an evidence-based, research supported approach used by mental health practitioners around the World.
Initial Consultations to Discuss Resilience
We offer all prospective clients an initial consultation to discuss improving your resilience prior to commencing any treatment plans.
The consultation is free and last around 50 minutes.
During this consultation we will discuss the various options that are available to you and make a considered recommendation based on your individual personal circumstances.
Initial consultations are also available as part of our online counselling service.
At TranceForm Psychology we recognise the importance of the therapy relationship in helping people to bring about effective change, so its important to be able to ‘meet’ to discuss our change programmes BEFORE proceeding.
Our policy is to help people make a fully balanced & considered decision about undertaking work with us, including both the financial and personal implications.
For most mental health problems we recommend following our 10 session Tranceformental CBT Programme (an advanced version of empirically established cognitive behavioural therapy) to overcome a wide range of mental health and behavioural problems.
CBT is a proven, evidence-based form of mental health counselling for developing a fundamental understanding of the dynamics of your problem, but also for learning new coping skills and strategies for sustainable change over your life.
The full course costs £795 which you can pay for on our fees page.
Tranceformental CBT is available On-line as well as a one-to-one format in the clinic.
