Weight Loss Counselling
Mental Health Counselling for Weight Loss & Weight Management
We offer a number of solutions for Weight Loss, each particular form of therapy is targeted at the unique characteristics of the person consulting for help or simply to take account of personal preferences.
Which is the Right Weight Loss Programme for Me?
Every single person responds differently to any particular therapy “modality” and whereas some people will find the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Weight Loss programme particularly effective, for others, a more formal Psychological approach may bring better results.
Here at Tranceform we use a diagnostic tool called the “Locus of Control” to determine the likelihood of success with any particular programme.
This “LOC” test is a measure of “how much control you believe you have over your life” and has been shown to be extremely important when it comes to a persons ability to cope with life events and circumstances.
An External Locus of Control
People who have an “External Locus of Control” tend to see life as “something that HAPPENS to them” over which they are unable to exert any influence.
People demonstrating an external LOC will typically have strong beliefs in things like “Luck” or “Fate” and may also have strong Religious Beliefs – all of these beliefs are centred around the idea that a persons life events are controlled by these factors.
These types of beliefs can inhibit a person taking positive actions.
From a Weight Loss Perspective these external beliefs might be something like:
- I’m addicted to chocolate
- I cannot stop myself eating
- I have a low metabolism
- I cannot lose weight
An Internal Locus of Control
People who have, or develop, an “Internal Locus of Control” tend to see life as “What You Make It” and take full responsibility for how their life “plays out.”
A person with an internal LOC sees themselves as the key to their successes and tend not to believe that their lives are controlled by all of these outside factors.
These types of beliefs “empower” people to take responsibility and lead to the ability to bring about changes that they desire.
When it comes to Weight Loss, an internal LOC leads to beliefs such as:
- I enjoy chocolate in sensible amounts
- I can easily eat the right quantities and types of foods
- I can succeed if I put in the effort
- I can cope with stress without turning to food
Transform Your Thinking & Overcome Weight Loss Issues
If you’re committed to overcoming your Weight Loss problems then we highly recommend following our Advanced Tranceformental CBT programme with Paul. Tranceformental CBT is available as Online Therapy if required.
The Tranceformental programme is a highly successful & pragmatic mental health counselling course, run over 10 sessions, that will teach you everything you need to know to understand your problem, identify how unhelpful thinking and limiting beliefs might be reinforcing the issue, and then show you how to make any changes to your unhelpful thinking styles or maladaptive safety behaviours that you may have developed as part of your coping strategies.
Our Tranceformental CBT programme is an evidence-based, research supported approach used by mental health practitioners around the World.
Alternative Therapy Options for Weight Loss
Although our preferred form of mental health counselling for Weight Loss is Tranceformental CBT we also offer alternative psychotherapies for those who might prefer a different approach.
- Psychodynamic therapy which focuses more on emotional problems and relies on the Therapeutic Relationship to bring about change. Available with Paul.
- General Counselling which is less structured but still provides a safe and non-judgmental environment to discuss issues which is therapeutic in its own right.
- Hypnotherapy is an alternative form of therapy that can be applied to a very wide range of problems and is available with Joan.
Free Initial Consultations for Weight Loss
We offer all prospective clients an initial consultation to discuss your Weight Loss aims prior to commencing any treatment plans.
The consultation is free and lasts around 50 minutes.
During this consultation we will discuss the various options that are available to you and make a considered recommendation based on your individual personal circumstances.
Initial consultations are also available as part of our online therapy service.
At TranceForm Psychology we recognise the importance of the therapeutic relationship in helping people to bring about effective change, so its important to be able to ‘meet’ to discuss our change programmes BEFORE proceeding.
Our policy is to help people make a fully balanced & considered decision about undertaking work with us, including both the financial and personal implications.
