Sleep Disorders
Mental Health Counselling for Sleep Disorders and Insomnia – Available in Wolverhamptoin and Online
Insomnia Sleep Disorders are generally characterised by their “duration” and are classified as either “acute” or “chronic” (Brief and circumstantial or compounding over time).
Acute Insomnia is brief and often happens because of life circumstances (for example, when you can’t fall asleep the night before a big event the next day, or after receiving stressful or bad news).
Many people may have experienced this type of circumstantial sleep disorder and in general they tend to resolve themselves over a short period of time.
Chronic Insomnia is sleep that is frequently disrupted and occurs at least three nights per week and lasts at least three months.
Chronic Insomnia Sleep Disorders can have many causes.
- Changes in our life patterns and routines
- High levels of Stress
- Shift working
- Anxiety Disorders
- Alcohol Abuse
- Drug problems
Sleep Disorders are often linked to other psychological or medical problems, although the link between them is not always obvious or direct.
Sleep Disorders – Onset & Maintenance
People with Sleep Disorders tend to have difficulty falling asleep (known as “onset”), staying asleep (known as “maintenance”) and/or they may also wake up too early in the morning.
Sleep Disorders – Treatment
We offer Brief Directive Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Therapy to treat Sleep Disorders here at our clinic in Wombourne, Wolverhampton.
In general, Sleep Disorder related conditions respond well to therapy.
As a guide, if you have suffered from Sleep Disorders for a significant number of years and have experienced Anxiety about it since your childhood, then you might be best advised to undertake a course of Psycho-dynamic therapy.
If, on the other hand, your Sleep Disorders are more recent and on the whole you have been free from the symptoms for extended periods of your life, then you might benefit more from one of the briefer, “directive” type interventions.
Transform Your Thinking & Overcome Sleeping Disorders
If you’re committed to overcoming your sleep disorders then we highly recommend following either our Advanced Tranceformental CBT programme with Paul, or Joan.

The Tranceformental programme is a highly successful & pragmatic psychological training course, run over 10 sessions, that will teach you everything you need to know to understand your problem, identify how unhelpful thinking and limiting beliefs might be reinforcing the issue, and then show you how to make any changes to your unhelpful thinking styles or maladaptive safety behaviours that you may have developed as part of your coping strategies.
Our Tranceformental CBT programme is an evidence-based, research supported approach used by mental health practitioners around the World.
Initial Consultations for Sleep Disorders
We offer all prospective clients an initial consultation to discuss your sleep disorders prior to commencing any treatment plans.
The consultation is free and last around 50 minutes
Why not drop us an e-mail to find out if we can help before arranging your initial assessment or, if you prefer, leave us a message on our Facebook page: facebook.com/tranceformational/ and we’ll get back to you to arrange a mutual date and time.
During this consultation we will discuss the various options that are available to you and make a considered recommendation based on your individual personal circumstances.
Initial consultations are also available as part of our online therapy service.
At TranceForm Psychology we recognise the importance of the therapeutic relationship in helping people to bring about effective change, so its important to be able to ‘meet’ to discuss our change programmes BEFORE proceeding.
Our policy is to help people make a fully balanced & considered decision about undertaking work with us, including both the financial and personal implications.
For most mental health problems we recommend following our 10 session Tranceformental CBT Programme (an advanced version of empirically established cognitive behavioural therapy) to overcome a wide range of mental health and behavioural problems.
CBT is a proven, evidence-based form of mental health counselling for developing a fundamental understanding of the dynamics of your problem, but also for learning new coping skills and strategies for sustainable change over your life.
