Here at Tranceform we have a different approach to helping people deal with problems or life limiting paradigms. Our model for change does not depend on, or subscribe to, to the ‘medicalised’ model of ‘mental illness’ in which common barriers to living a full life are labelled as ‘illnesses’ or ‘disorders’ but rather we start from the point of view that there is nothing ‘wrong’ with you apart from ‘badly managed thinking’ or ‘unhelpful behaviours’.
This alternative approach to mental health challenges may seem quite controversial but in fact is widely understood and accepted within the general ‘psychological’ modelling and academic fields whilst the more generalised, and highly pathologised, medico-psychiatric model is coming under much more scrutiny and has many critics.
People may be surprised to learn that ‘psychiatric disorders’, as they have been ‘labelled’, are actually ‘opinions’ that are based on (1) what a person says they are feeling and (2) the opinion of the ‘psychiatrist’.
There are in fact NO medical tests that can be carried out on a person that can show any kind of biological problem exists. A diagnosis of ‘clinical depression’ only requires a person to say that they ‘feel’ or ‘behave’ in a certain way and they can (and most likely will) be ‘labelled’ as having a ‘disease’ of the brain and prescribed the relevant psychiatric drug.

Because of our standpoint that most human behaviours that have traditionally been classified as ‘mental illnesses’ are really just ‘unhelpful’ thought or behavioural patterns our ‘therapeutic’ services tend to consider these behaviours as inherently a part of YOU and the way you perceive and react to life due to your core beliefs and the ‘rules for living’ that you adopt as a result of those core beliefs.
By taking this approach we aim to help you to ‘help yourself’ by providing a ‘psycho-educational’ process in which you learn how to recognise and then change these core underlying beliefs and then as a result, experience life differently. We believe that, for whatever reason, you ‘created’ these unhelpful thought patterns and associated behaviours and so you can ‘uncreate’ them as well.
This is no more true than in our delivery of the Thrive Programme which tackles these ‘mental health problems’ from a fundamentally new direction with the problem situated firmly within yourself.
