Cognitive Reconstruction Therapy (CRT)
Cognitive Reconstruction Therapy is a form of psychotherapy based on the combined principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Self-Determination Theory and Social Constructivism which are described in Paul’s book “The Restrictive Realities of Belief” (available on Amazon from Autumn 2021 or as a PDF book on this website).
It differs from conventional CBT in the way that it recognises the role played by the client within the therapy process (unlike CBT which regards the client as a passive recipient of scientific CBT principles) as well as taking into consideration how socio-cultural knowledge and understandings ‘impose’ limiting or restricting beliefs upon individuals that directly contribute to mental distress!
What Type of Problems Can it Be Used For?
CRT is suitable for ANY problem that can be classified as psychological in nature, including:
- Anxiety-related conditions
- Depressive moods
- General mental health problems
- and so on.
The process itself takes place over 10, one hour sessions, once per week.
Each session is built around an online course module which the client studies prior to attending each week.
Each module describes and explains key psychological concepts related to mental health issues as well as outlining practical tools and techniques designed to bring about fundamental changes to the thoughts and behaviours directly related to the clients problems.
In this way, the course plots a ‘structured pathway’ towards understanding and changing the underlying beliefs and values that may be supporting the presenting problems.
How Do I Undertake This Course of Therapy?
CRT is available in FOUR different formats:
- You can purchase Paul’s self-help book “The Restrictive Realities of Belief” from our on-line shop and study it in your own time. (£19.99)
- You can purchase the Self-Administered Interactive Online Course and work though it on your own (£149) from late 2021.
- You can buy a course of CRT and attend the ten sessions online with Paul using Zoom. (£795)
- Finally, you can buy the CRT course and attend the ten session face-to-face with Paul in the Wombourne clinic offices. (£795)
When undertaking CRT as self-administered or with Paul Online or in the clinic, the course also includes a downloadable ‘workbook’ which you use to carry out various activities in-between sessions or modules.
The workbook ensures that you apply the principles contained in the course rather than simply acquire the knowledge.
It is through applying what you learn that the process of change is facilitated.
