What is Premature Ejaculation?

Premature Ejaculation, or PE as it is known medically, is when a man “cums too quickly” either during sexual intercourse or sometimes before penetration has even occurred.

Along with Erectile Dysfunction, it is considered one of the most common sexual problems a man is likely to suffer.

In general terms, premature ejaculation tends to affect the younger, less experienced man, although data shows that about a third of ALL men are likely to experience this problem at some point in their lives.

It is likely that a significant factor in premature ejaculation problems is related to sexual performance anxiety.

What exactly “premature” means is really down to personal interpretation, but to be considered to be a problem, we are probably talking about “cumming” within one or two minutes or even seconds.

What can cause Premature Ejaculation?

As premature ejaculation tends to affect the younger man it is almost certainly the case that “experience” plays a major role in this problem.

This is not difficult to understand when one considers the amount of anticipatory anxiety that is built during early sexual encounters when the focus is all on “control” and the avoidance of “embarrassment”.

This desire to be in control and to not cum too quickly undoubtedly falls victim to what is known as “Coue’s Law of Reversed Effort” – this is an effect that occurs when we have a specific desire in our conscious mind (in this case to be able to “last” a long time) but our imagination tends to focus on all the negative or bad things that could happen.

What Emile Coue proposed is that whenever this conflict occurs between the conscious thoughts and the imagination, that the imagination is much more “powerful” and will always “beat” the conscious thoughts.

It is unlikely that PE has a physiological or biological cause, although of course this is NOT impossible and so we always recommend that clients consult with their GP prior to consulting us to ensure that any biological problems can be ruled-out.

Whatever the cause, this is a problem that once experienced, can escalate into a full-blown Psychological problem that tends to grow worse the more one worries about it.

Can Premature Ejaculation be helped?

The majority of men will find that the more they have sexual experiences, the smaller this problem becomes as they develop a greater sense of control over climaxing.

This of course is “experience”.
