Weight Loss Help
Weight loss & weight management programmes using applied psychology and hypnotherapy.
Tranceform Psychology offer psychological therapy solutions for Weight Loss each of which are targeted at the unique characteristics of the person consulting for help or simply to take account of personal preferences.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Weight Loss
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on how a person’s THOUGHTS and BELIEFS lead to feelings and behaviours.
Over-eating, for example (eating more than your body actually needs) is a behaviour that is driven by the perception of some sort of ‘need’ to eat more, or is a form of ‘safety behaviour’ or ‘avoidance’ of uncomfortable emotions.
One of the key concepts we help clients to think about for their weight loss ambitions is called the Locus of Control.
The Locus of Control can be though of as being either ‘external’ or ‘internal’.
An External Locus of Control
People who have an “External Locus of Control” tend to see life as “something that HAPPENS to them” over which they are unable to exert any influence.
People demonstrating an external LOC will typically have strong beliefs in things like “Luck” or “Fate” and may also have strong Religious Beliefs – all of these beliefs are centred around the idea that a persons life events are controlled by these ‘outside’ influences.
External beliefs can inhibit a person from taking positive actions.
From a Weight Loss Perspective these external beliefs might be something like:
- I’m addicted to chocolate
- I cannot stop myself eating
- I have a low metabolism
- I cannot lose weight
An Internal Locus of Control
On the other hand, people who have, or develop, a more “Internal Locus of Control” tend to see life as “What You Make It” and take full responsibility for how their life “plays out.”
A person with an internal LOC sees themselves as the key to their successes and tends not to believe that their lives are controlled by all of these outside factors.
These types of internal beliefs “empower” people to take responsibility and lead to the ability to bring about changes that they desire.
When it comes to Weight Loss, an internal LOC leads to beliefs such as:
- I enjoy chocolate in sensible amounts
- I can easily eat the right quantities and types of foods
- I can succeed if I put in the effort
- I can cope with stress without turning to food
Self-Help CBT for Weight Loss
We also offer a self-help course of CBT that does not require clients to have any direct contact with a therapist.
This comprehensive, 10 module course can teach you all of the tools and techniques associated with CBT in order to take control of your eating issues.
Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss
Hypnotherapy for weight loss focuses on helping clients to identify their own skills and resources in order to take charge of their eating habits.
Often, this takes the form of clinical hypnotherapy in which any emotional issues are addressed and resolved which allows the client to eat food without it having to be a form of ‘comfort’.
The Hypno-Band Weight Loss System uses a combination of CBT and Hypnosis to help the over-eater feel ‘fuller’ with smaller portions of food.
This is achieved through the metaphor of having a ‘virtual gastric band’ fitted during the programme course in combination with better management of ‘eating triggers’.
